Update on Orders

When I wrote my previous post, I had full intentions of welcoming orders once summer arrived. Well, summer is here and life happens! Although I have loved fulfilling every Nat Kat order that has come my way, I am to the point where I cannot take orders like I once did. I appreciate your interest and will continue to post projects every now and then! Have a wonderful summer, and I hope at some point to be able to accept orders like I once did. We shall see! Through this entire journey, I have ultimately learned that my plans are not always God's plans. His timing is perfect and I sometimes just need to patiently wait for His plan to unfold. Thank you again for following Nat Kat Designs! I appreciate each and every one of you!

Scaling Back

I have been meaning to write this post for awhile now but have been putting it off in hopes that I wouldn't have to write it. However, the time has come for me to let you know that I will not be accepting orders at this time. I recently started a new teaching job, and it is consuming a lot of my time. I kept thinking that I would have time to work on Nat Kat orders after school, but that is not the case. After being at school for 10, sometimes 12, hours a day, my creativity is almost nonexistent at night. I want to be able to give 100% to each Nat Kat order, and at this time, I don't think I can do that. I definitely want to start accepting orders again soon, but right now I need to refocus my priorities and get in a new routine. I love creating things for you and do not want to stop completely. I'll be back soon!

I created this painting a couple of months ago for some friends of mine who waited to find out what they were having. They had set up a precious black and white nursery, and when Nolan arrived, they added some blue. This painting was done for over Nolan's crib. I did stripes as the main design and then snuck in a few polka dots on the side!He also needed a bag tag for his diaper bag, and I coordinated that to go with his nursery as well.

One of the blogs that I follow is In This Wonderful Life. I have followed Cohen's story and prayed for this baby and his family. Once I heard of Cohen's passing, my heart broke, and I knew I wanted to do something but wasn't sure what. After much thought and prayer, I have decided to offer a special through the month of July in order to benefit Cohen's family.

Now through the end of July, I will be selling sets of 12 note cards (monogram or single initial) for $20 (including shipping), and all of the profit will be donated to "Cohen's Memorial Trust", which is set up for the Marshall's to help cover medical expenses.

This design is quickly becoming a signature Nat Kat design. It is definitely the most requested!Lisa contacted me about doing a family canvas and was very trusting of me. She really just wanted me to do whatever as far as the colors were concerned. In the beginning her walls were terra cotta, which I now think are being painted blue! Although I appreciated her trust, I was also a little nervous because I knew she would be the one living with it. I wanted it to be what she wanted. I love the final product, and I think she does too!

Shelley ordered these paintings for her sister-in-law (and nephew). This is the baby bedding that is in the nursery that was used as inspiration for the paintings.

Shelley had a vision for these paintings, and I tried to achieve that. She new exactly what she wanted, which was great! We did three 8x10 flat canvases (that will later be hung with ribbon). Here is the end product.

I finished this painting yesterday for some friends of ours who are expecting a little girl in a few weeks. Usually, I have my paintings all planned out and know exactly what I'm going to do. And, most of the time, I stick to that. For this one, I ended up doing something completely different than what I had originally thought and I'm so glad I did. I love the finished product!

Here is a wall/door hanging I did recently for a friend of mine (who is due any day now!) We decided to do a soft monogram with the name over it. It ended up having a very shabby chic look. I think the overall design turned out really sweet. (I also added a ribbon hanger but did not take picture of that.)

Meet Drake, the newest member of the Nat Kat family.

Drake is a mini goldendoodle (golden retriever/poodle mix).
Here is one of the first pictures the breeder sent us.

He has grown a lot since this was taken!

This is a more recent picture...on the stairs. He has learned that going upstairs is not allowed, although he still sneaks up there every now and then.
This is usually how we find him.
I also have to be careful when folding clothes because he has a fascination with dryer sheets. This is the time that one got away!
I was eventually able to pull it away.

Needless to say, we are having so much fun! He has adjusted well and has been a great dog! He loves to cuddle as much as he loves to play (especially outside).

Way Too Long...

So...it's been awhile since my last post. My absence is definitely not due to lack of things to share and I have plenty to show you soon. I could offer a ton of excuses as to why I have not updated regularly but I think I would rather just pick up where I left off. Please know that these next few months will be a little different than in the past. Many of you know (and some of you may not know) that I am currently pursuing a Master of Education in Elementary Education and working as a graduate assistant. Therefore, Nat Kat orders are done in my spare time. Unfortunately, this semester there will not be a lot of spare time. I have a heavy course load and my schedule is quite full. On top of all that, I am now faced with the reality of finding a job so I have started that process as well.

Now...the big question: "Are you still taking orders?" The answer is "Absolutely!" However, the turnaround time may be a little longer than usual, depending on the project. I enjoy doing this so much and appreciate each one of you that places an order. I will be honest with you about the time frame and if that will not work for you, just let me know.

I will be back soon with some recent projects and new designs!

Another Notepad Option

In the past, all of my notepads were perforated and bound with ribbon. I am offering a new option where the pages are gummed rather than tied with ribbon. This would be a great alternative for notepads designed for men who may not appreciate a cute, coordinating ribbon!

I am now offering a new font option for a printed monogram. This is one I printed on turquoise note cards and combined with coordinating brown envelopes.
This design could be done in a three letter monogram or even a single letter and can be printed on a number of things, including note cards, notepads, calling cards, etc.

These are some canvases I did for Emery back in October. She wanted four canvases to go over Hudson's changing table. She chose to do his monogram and then three short Bible verses. I love the fact that she has already claimed these scriptures for Hudson.

Here is one of my versions of a Christmas tree. These are both painted on 8x10 flat canvases and are available for purchase for $15 each or $20 for the set of 2. The background on the first one is a taupe with red, gold and shades of green circles. The second one has a red background with shades of green circles. (The colors in these look different in the pictures.)

Here is a fun gift idea for the person on your list who has everything! These are painted on 8x10 flat canvases and would be great on an easel on a shelf, desk, table, etc. I think this set would make great teacher gifts as well. They can change out the canvas for different holidays and display the birthday cake for student birthdays. The set of 3 is $35.
These canvases can also be purchased individually for $15 each.

Say It with Chalk

I have to admit that I love chalkboard paint so I think these plates are really fun! They would be perfect in a kitchen, at the entryway, on a sofa table, etc. Write what's for dinner, "Happy Birthday", a favorite scripture, or whatever you choose! There are so many different ways to use these, and they would make great gifts for teachers, neighbors, friends, or that person who has everything!

**There are not 91 days until Christmas. There were when I took this picture. Now (as of 11/2), there are only 52 days until Christmas!!!

I can also do a hand painted plate with an initial or monogram in the middle instead of chalkboard. That's another gift idea!

These are some crosses that I have painted recently. The first three all sold at Mission Market. They were painted on 11x14 flat panels. Flat panels are a great alternative to a wrapped canvas and can be displayed on an easel or even with a ribbon hanger.

Here is one that I painted for Shelley. She wanted a giraffe print cross with polka dots in the background. This one is painted on an 8x10 flat panel.

I loved the way the polka dots turned out on the "Celebrate" painting so much that I decided to do the same thing in green. Instead of doing something holiday, I opted for a scripture that could be displayed year round.

The process for this painting was unlike any that I had ever done. Usually my paintings are very thought out and planned. With this one, I simply did not have the time to do that so I just started painting, and I love the final product!

A Classy Notepad

My sister ordered this notepad to give to a friend as a gift. When I asked about a design, her response was to "just do something classy, maybe a cross or fleur de lis". Apparently, classy is not really my thing. Whimsy I can do. However, I struggled with classy! I think I did about 4 proofs before I came up with this one.

These are some things I made recently for the Taylors. Angie and Chris needed their own calling cards.

And Sarah Kate needed some of her own.

I also made Sarah Kate some waterproof labels. This is a new product that I am offering. These are perfect to stick on bottles, snack containers, water bottles, etc...anything that needs to be labeled. They are printed on special paper and then sealed to prevent the ink from smearing.
The labels come as a sheet of 30 and are $7.50 per sheet.

Rebecca asked me to design a notepad with "A Note from Catherine's Mom" and the colors blue and red. This is the final product.

There are so many possibilities for this mom notepad. It could be done to include all the children's names (if you have more than one child) or a blank for you to fill in your child's name. These are great to write notes to teachers, bus drivers, or other parents.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

I was so excited about working on this order. This was my first time to personalize a clipboard, and I am so pleased with the outcome. This particular one was ordered as a secret pal gift for a preschool teacher whose classroom theme is monkeys. (That seems to be a popular theme this year!) I found this ribbon and designed the rest of the clipboard around it.

Chalkboard Frames

These frames are painted with chalkboard paint, allowing you to put any caption on it that you want. The first few pictures are frames without anything written on them.

Here are few examples of what could be written on the frames (details of the picture, a message, name, scripture, etc.) There are so many things that you could write, and when you get tired of that or change out the picture, simply wipe with a wet paper towel and start over!

These frames have a 3.5 x 3.5 opening and are $15 with embellishments (bow, feathers, etc.) and $10 without any embellishments.

My mom ordered this painting as a gift for a family friend's birthday. We decided to do zebra print with a metallic hot pink "B". Mom called me the day of the party to inform me that the birthday cake was three-tiered with hot pink and black polka dots on the top and bottom and zebra print in the middle. We had no idea when I painted it, but our design was the perfect fit for the party!

I added a little "bling" to the sides with some rhinestones.
